Advancements: Hapitic Interface

Share

Haptic means pertaining to the sense of touch. So, technology involving computers to build such sense of touch is a Haptic Technology.

By applying different forces we could actually sense the images to reality. The interfaces allow us to touch, feel, stimulate, and alter dimensional-objects in the virtual realm.

There are three types of haptic interaction with the computer:

* First is force feedback which is like the Rumble Pak, joysticks and game controllers. This type of feedback uses movement to feel        forces.

* One  is positioning feedback, which is feeling the objects around relative to the body and where things are.

* The last is tactile feedback, which uses force that allows feeling temperature, pressure, and other sensations. These interfaces allow computers and virtual reality to be as lifelike as possible.

Haptic technology is used  in several fields like  medicine, engineering, entertainment, education e.t.c.

These systems are being used for is rehabilitation. By using this touch technology, a person can have exercise simulated and be used to
rehabilitate somebody with injury.

There are many ways haptic technology can be used in engineering. Being able to build, test and design things virtually has many possibilities.

There are many haptic systems already in the hitech- niche. There are joysticks, controllers, steering wheels, and other types of gaming devices that always  the player to feel the bumps on the road or other things.

Education uses hatpic systems to teach. Students get hands on experience in the virtual world on things that otherwise wouldn’t be experienced.

Windows Eight(8)

Microsoft Windows 8 is scheduled to be released this year with a beta version late this February.

Good news for Windows 7 customers is that they can easily migrate to the former as it doesn’t require any extra hardware requirement. The Windows 8 view has a series of square tiles that show the status of applications in real time. This along with the touch interface which will be integrated shortly is the revolutionary change brought by Microsoft.

The new OS will run on PCs, smartphones and tablets and the idea of a common interface for all electronic gadgets may now finally be realized. Microsoft assures that the OS is exceptionally friendly with a mouse and keyboard as it is with the touch interface.

It is a huge step for other competitors in the same niche.

The New HTC Sensational XL

Share

HTC India has launched a new Sensation XL  Android phone with Beats Audio recently. Company has priced it at a heavy 38,799, making it the most expensive Android phone till date in India. The giant will be available in all mobile stores very soon.

HTC Sensation XL features a 1.5GHz processor, a big 4.7 inch display with 800X480p resolution, and Android 2.3. While the specifications seem great, display resolution and RAM are slight disappointments.1GB RAM has become the obvious for quite  some time for high-end Android devices, but is struck back with 768MB and in resolution with 720p displays are in, HTC could have at-least put a qHD screen.

The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus review

Share

The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first phone to feature Android 4.0 and the latest version of Google’s mobile OS. It also features Samsung’s top of the range HD screens, a dual core processor and 1080p HD video recording.

It is a quite handful phone with a size of 136 x 68mm, but pleasingly slim at just 9mm.Not only size but it is also surprisingly light at 135g, due largely to the all-plastic casing. The 4.65inch capacitive touch screen takes up most of the front.

With a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, it’s arguably the best display you’ll see on any mobile phone today. It’s more advanced however, as using a picture of your face to unlock the device for instance, and the action bar that appears in apps such as Google Maps, allowing you to access key functions without entering a menu first.

In the end there is no doubt that this master-piece will demand big bucks and is worthy of it indeed.

What a historical draw and tie match! Only second time in the history of cricket we encountered such a scoreboard, previously being the England Vs Zimbabwe On 18-22 Dec 1996, where England failed to achieve the target of 205 runs.

Talking about this match, where we acknowledged the maiden ton by spin wizard R. Ashwin, and nervous nineties patient Sachin  out for 94 and the magnificent combi of Ashwin and Ojha( took all 10 wickets), oh boy! the match was fullll with action and thrill, which kept the audience bound to the game.

The scores follows:

22 Nov day 1 – West Indies 1st innings 267/2 (KA Edwards 65*, DM Bravo 57*, 91 ov)
23 Nov day 2 – West Indies 1st innings 575/9 (FH Edwards 7*, D Bishoo 2*, 181 ov)

Make some noise for the Desi Boyz

Share

And here it comes another good entertainer from a debutant director Rohit  Dhawan, son of the well known director David Dhawan.

Talking of the movie, the friendship between the two Desi Boyz is well displayed, the Desi way, going to any extent, doing all the good and weird  things just for that one person called a friend. The editing and cinematography is flawless. The narration is fine and story written too is meaningful and clear. The one-liners used in the movie are catchy and brilliant.

I’ll rate this movie ( * * *) stars.

Light weight metal

Share

Adorable buildings such as the Eiffel Tower or the Golden Gate Bridge, are weight-efficient by virtue of their architecture. Scientists are revolutionizing lightweight materials by bringing this concept to the nano and micro scales. The structure of the new micro-lattice metal isn’t visually that far off from the structure of the Eiffel Tower.

It is a real photograph, for sure. Researchers have developed a material that is as strong as metal but 100 times lighter than Styrofoam. The material is constructed from a micro-lattice of nickel phosphorous tubes that is 99.9% air. The tubes are hollow and have walls 1,000 times thinner than a human hair yet have the strength of metal with the added benefit of being ultra resistant to strain. Researchers at the University of California Irvine believe this new metal could be used to make light weight batteries.
